Catan is an excellent strategy game, with a bit of luck alongside it as well. You have to build roads and cities to numbers and when these numbers are rolled on the two dice, you can collect staples - bricks, wool, wood and iron. With these you can then buy cards for points. This is a great strategic game to be played over an afternoon. By building in the right place, or trading with the right people you can build more settlements, roads or buy cards for advantages.
"In Catan (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players collect these resources (cards)—wood, grain, brick, sheep, or stone—to build up their civilizations to get to 10 victory points and win the game."
